For Heath Lawrence, a stakes-winning horse trainer, racing is more than a career — it’s a way of life. From pulling the family horse trailer at just 15 years old to winning the 2020 Turf Paradise Derby with Swag Sational, Heath’s journey has always been defined by hard work, family guidance, and a passion for the sport. Horses weren’t just part of his upbringing — they’ve always been the heartbeat of his family.
Family Legacy
The Foundation: Bob & Kim Lawrence
The Lawrence program is rooted in generations of horsemanship. Heath’s mom, Kim Lawrence, began riding professionally in the 1980s and continues to care for the horses daily, ensuring they are healthy, loved, and thriving. His dad, Bob Lawrence, earned his trainer’s license at just 18 and remains a guiding force, sharing decades of expertise in training and mentoring.
Developing the Next Generation: Brooke Lawrence
Heath’s sister, Brooke Lawrence-Martin, is regionally recognized for developing young performance horses. Working closely with Bob, she is the heart and soul of the developmental program, dedicating her time to starting and preparing young horses for successful racing careers.
Behind the Scenes: Kelsey Lawrence
Heath’s wife, Kelsey Lawrence, manages the business operations — handling marketing, PR, finance, and logistics. Her leadership ensures the program runs with professionalism and efficiency, allowing Heath to dedicate himself fully to the horses.
Daily Dedication: Luke & Emmy
Heath’s brother, Luke, and sister, Emmy, provide essential support with the daily care and activities that keep the program moving forward. Their consistency and hands-on help make them vital members of the Lawrence team.

Nationwide Experience
Since earning his license in 2017, Heath has trained and raced horses across the United States, including Florida, Kentucky, California, Arizona, and Washington. His career highlights include time at Keeneland, where he worked with over 50 horses and gained invaluable experience on one of the country’s most competitive circuits.
